Argentario

Argentario is the opportunity we’ve all been waiting for, the island that can be reached without a boat... it will be the place we will then dream about in future magical nights, its colors into which we will lovingly lose ourselves. The only way to access its Truth and Beauty is to walk its paths, made of sand, rock and water, you will be filled with joy on this stunning piece of Italian land. The Feniglia, a 6 chilometer strip of Nature Reserve, is one of the most beautiful wild beaches of the entire Tyrrhenian sea, sand dunes on one side, a rich pine forest in the middle and a lagoon full of waterfowl on the the other side. The mystery that is kept in the ancient city of Cosa, the Etruscan “Tagliata Marina”, the Spanish fortresses of Porto Ercole, the evident signs of the last few days of Caravaggio, the crazy genius who died there, the fishermans village of Porto Santo Stefano and the amazing cliffs that surround it, exclusive beaches and the cobalt blue of the sea at every glance. A Mediterranean dream come true.

HIKING PROGRAM

✔Day 1 Walking barefoot in the sea along the beach within the Nature Reserve of “Duna Feniglia” we’ll arrive at the ancient city of Cosa: an archaic and evocative village, surrounded by megalithic walls, perhaps Etruscan, certainly a Roman colony, like a small Pompei in the Argentario. If we want to walk a bit further we can reach the enigmatic “Spacco della Regina”, an incredible Roman hydraulic engineering work in the rock. Close to that and directly on the beach is the “Puccini Tower” where the famous opera “Turandot” was composed. After an aperitivo on the beach we’ll delve into the forest with its giant pines and wild deers and then on to the wild life of the lagoon.
✔Day 2 A day in and around Porto Ercole, a charming fishermans village which in the Renaissance age needed to be protected by a wonderful system made up of four fortresses which dominate the whole cost, an absolute masterpiece of military architecture. Forte Stella, Fortezza Spagnola, Forte Filippo and Santa Caterina, built by Philip II of Spain during his reign of great naval power. The Venetian Ambassador said of him… “He dresses very tastefully, and everything that he does is courteous and gracious”...It’s a shame that he was married and widowed four times!!!!. And then a maze of arches and alleys overlooking the wonderful blue that in spring has that scent in the air that reminds you of when you were a child. An itinerary of narrow streets and coves, woods and sheep tracks, harbours and hills.
✔Day 3 Porto Santo Stefano appears as if an impressionist painter had made thousands of brush strokes of pure brilliant color. Today's journey will make you want to throw yourself into the breeze. Walking slowly, breathing in deeply every breath of wind, following a narrow trail, we will reach Capo d'Uomo: It’s probably the best place to fully understand the Argentario. Here on this amazing cliff - its the highest peak of the coast - with the ruins of an ancient tower, you will understand why your destiny passed through this land.
