The FARFA VALLEY gives a privileged insight into Italy, still authentic and unspoiled. Centuries of history have not transformed this quiet and lush valley just 40 minutes away from ROME, located right in the center of Italy, in the ancient region of the Sabina which stretches between Lazio, Abruzzo and Umbria. The unique orography and the ancient local culture have kept away the “big players” that exploit human activities and tourism. The Farfa Valley has remained small and this is its pride and its uniqueness. The valley is an outstanding example of how society has integrated its activities with the natural environment. Olive cultivation began here more than 2600 years ago, and is still the main economic activity of the area, together with small livestock and vegetable gardens, the local way of life still revolves around the olive’s time cycles and expresses all of its devotion in spite of the need for speed and voracity of the modern era. As St. Francis of Assisi discovered, who made a stop here on his way to Rome, those who wander in this valley rediscover an authenticity and simplicity, along the ancient paths, in the narrow streets of the medieval villages, in the daily preparation of food, at the folkloristic festivities which from spring to autumn pack the calendar. The contemplative horizons between the high hills dominated by hamlets, castles and ancient monasteries, valleys where the vital element of water flows in the streams, rivers and lakes, the magnificent colors that mark each season, the flora and wildlife and the history, which here played an important role, from prehistoric times through to the Roman period to the Middle Ages, all of these things offer a unique prospect of harmony and pleasure of the journey.

25/30 km daily ride for which reasonable level of phisical fitness and being familiar with using a bike are required. Specific skill is not necessary.
